Objective: The student will have an understanding of the legal authorities pertaining to Security Officer Commission and responsibilities and will be able to demonstrate proficiency in techniques and tactics necessary to carry out duties as a Commissioned Security Officer.

The Commission’s most current version training material shall be used by all Commission approved Level III training schools.

All students of a Level III training school shall be tested with the most current version examination prepared by and obtained from the Commission.

The passing grade of all written examinations shall be a minimum of 75% correct answers.

The passing rate for firearms qualification shall be a minimum of 70%.

Prerequisite: None (Although successful candidates must complete Level II Training prior to Commission)

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) regulates the private security profession in Texas. DPS protects the public by conducting fingerprint-based background checks on applicants, investigating and resolving complaints, and taking disciplinary action against licensees or seeking criminal prosecution of those who perform private security services without a license.

The private security profession includes armed and unarmed security guards, personal protection officers, private investigators, alarm systems installers and monitors, armored car couriers, electronic access control device installers, and locksmiths. DPS regulates the private security profession under the authority of the Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 1702 and the related administrative rules.
